“For those who argue that it would be better to support the many Mexicans in disgrace first, my answer is: Why not support those in pain wherever they may be found? Restrictive, selective solidarity does not deserve to be called humanitan.”
-Ambassador Luis Ortiz Monasterio.
In an increasingly globalized and interdependent world, and in the middle of the greatest humanitarian crisis of our times, the Habesha Project urges the Mexican civil society to take action, seeking to show that solidarity cannot be exclusive and must cross borders.
We join the wide and recognized Mexican historical tradition of giving asylum and refuge to those persecuted by violence and intolerance, and we are convinced that this humanitarian initiative will enhance our country by feeding that soft power that falls on our deepest cultural wealth and values.
